Bankruptcy Terms Explained in Plain English

341 Meeting of Creditors

Plain-English Definition

A meeting where the debtor answers questions under oath about finances and the bankruptcy case.

Why it matters

The trustee conducts the meeting, and creditors may ask questions. It is different from a trial before a bankruptcy judge. Your attorney helps you prepare and explains the attendance and document requirements for your case.

A simple example

A client prepares with an attorney for questions about the information disclosed in the bankruptcy papers.

Illustrative only; not a prediction of any case outcome.
