Why We Shifted From Litigation to Estate Planning and Bankruptcy Law in Florida

For years, Stewart Law operated as a litigation-focused firm. We handled disputes, represented clients in court, and navigated the adversarial side of the legal system. It was meaningful work — but over time, something became clear: the most valuable legal work often happens long before anyone steps into a courtroom.

We started noticing a pattern. Clients would come to us in crisis — facing a lawsuit, a creditor judgment, or a family dispute over an estate — and in nearly every case, the situation could have been avoided entirely with the right planning in place. A well-drafted contract. A current will. A bankruptcy filing made before assets were lost. The litigation was often just the consequence of planning that never happened.

That realization changed everything about how we practice.

Prevention Is More Powerful Than Litigation

Litigation is expensive, time-consuming, and emotionally draining — for everyone involved. Even when you win, you've spent months or years of your life and thousands of dollars getting there. Estate planning and bankruptcy law, by contrast, are fundamentally about giving people control over their situation before it becomes a crisis.

A Chapter 7 bankruptcy can eliminate tens of thousands of dollars in debt in a matter of months. A properly structured estate plan can keep your family out of probate court entirely. A solid contract can prevent a business dispute before it starts. These aren't just legal documents — they're tools that protect people's lives and livelihoods.

What This Means for Our Clients

When you work with Stewart Law today, you're working with a firm that has seen what happens when planning is absent — and is deeply committed to making sure that doesn't happen to you. We focus on three areas where proactive legal work makes the biggest difference: contracts and business law, estate planning, and bankruptcy and debt relief.

We keep our practice focused intentionally. We don't try to be everything to everyone. That focus means we're genuinely excellent at what we do, and our clients get the benefit of that depth.

If you're a Brevard County resident or business owner who has been putting off a will, a business agreement, or a conversation about debt relief — we'd encourage you to reach out. The best time to plan is before you need to.
